APPENDIX - A BRIEF HISTORY OF CHURCH ARCHITECTURE
The Site Title, "A Beroean Page" is drawn from Acts 17:11 where the Jews of Beroea, when they heard the preaching of Paul and Silas, were commended for examining the Scriptures daily "to see whether these things were so" ... which is the author's purpose.

The author was born in London, U.K. but grew up in Australia. He trained for the Baptist ministry in Spurgeon's College in London, took his Divinity degree with London University, then went on to pastor three churches in the U.K. in Southampton, Petts Wood and Cambridge, before returning to Australia to pastor two churches at Dandenong in Victoria and The City Tabernacle Baptist Church in Brisbane, Queensland. He married Audrey, a nurse, and they have twin sons, both married. He retired at the end of 1993. His interests include photography, computing (modest programming), sailing (participant), motor racing (non-participant!), cricket, travel (no longer affordable), astronomy (very amateur) and church architecture.

BOOK PUBLISHED - "THE DIVINE FORBEARANCE"
The author has available a book he has had privately printed, "The Divine Forbearance." It is a study of the phrase 'slow to anger' in the Old Testament and the words 'forbearance, longsuffering, patience' in the New, whose purpose is to show that the divine forbearance is such a significant component in God's reaction to human sin and its forgiveness that it is in fact a key atonement concept, which, once given the place it is given in the Bible, throws a fresh - and unifying - light on the themes of reconciliation, propitiation and sacrifice. Part I of the book develops the theme of longsuffering through both the Old and New Testaments, and offers a radical re-think of the way sacrifice is to be understood. Part II reflects on the implications of that study for a Substitutionary view of the Atonement. The book combines a blend of both theological and pastoral reflections, discussing such questions as "When Is It Right to Forgive?" which it is hoped will make it accessible to the general reader, and a helpful resource for pastors. It is available from the address below at a cost of AUS $20.00 plus AUS $5.00 p&p within Australia or AUS $10.00 Overseas Air Mail. (Cash, cheque or Money Order only. I am sorry that I cannot process Credit Cards.)
